{"id":145,"date":"2015-05-11T23:20:59","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T03:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/?page_id=145"},"modified":"2020-09-05T09:55:13","modified_gmt":"2020-09-05T13:55:13","slug":"resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/","title":{"rendered":"The Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Graphic Syllabus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/piktochart.com\/\">Piktochart<\/a> &#8211; Service to make graphic syllabi or infographics.\u00a0 You can make 5 resources for free after that there is a yearly fee.\u00a0 Here are a couple of examples I&#8217;ve made, one is from my <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/courses\/u-s-womens-history\/u-s-womens-history-syllabus-2019\/\">U.S. Women&#8217;s History<\/a> class and the other is from my U.S. survey course &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/courses\/foundations-of-modern-america\/foundations-syllabus-fall-2019\/\">The Foundations of Modern America<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classroom Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jeopardylabs.com\/\">JeopardyLabs<\/a> &#8211; Online\u00a0 jeopardy template that allows you to enter questions and answers into the program for play in-class.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used it as a means to engage students with out-of-class readings and break-up a standard seminar style discussion.\u00a0 You can see my <a href=\"https:\/\/jeopardylabs.com\/play\/marxism17\">Jeopardy Board for the historiography readings on Marxism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/foundations-of-modern-democracy-timeline\/\">Foundations Timeline<\/a> &#8211; Uses <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/content-types-and-applications\">H5P.com<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/timeline\">timeline content type<\/a> that allows you to build a chronological sequence of events. For each event, you may add images and texts, including assets from Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo, Google Maps and SoundCloud.\u00a0 I created this one for my HIS 120: Foundations of Modern America Class.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/dominion-of-new-england-maps\/\">Dominion of New England Maps<\/a> &#8211; Uses\u00a0 an H5P. com image blender (<a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/content-types\/agamotto#example=79243\">Agamotto<\/a>) to easily demonstrate changes on maps or images.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve created one to show New England colonies before, during, and after the Dominion of New England.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/patriotic-ladies\/\">Patriotic Ladies at Edenton in North Carolina<\/a> &#8211; Uses<a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/\"> H5P.com<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/image-hotspots#example=824\">Image Hotspots content type<\/a> to\u00a0 add information pop-ups to images.\u00a0 This is an excellent tool for explaining political cartoons and other complex images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/courses\/english-bill-of-rights-1689\/\">English Bill of Rights 1689 <\/a>&#8211; Uses<a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/\"> H5P.com<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/drag-and-drop\">Drag and Drop content type<\/a> to create activities that allows students to link certain types of content together.\u00a0 In this activity I take a difficult to understand document and have students link a more understandable definition to the difficult phrases\/passages in the document.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/united-states-constitution-1789\/\">United States Constitution, 1789 <\/a>uses <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/\">H5P.com<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/presentation\">course presentation content type<\/a> to provide an interactive US Constitution with dialogue boxes that asks students questions about the original US Constitution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/comics-and-juvenile-delinquency-in-the-1950s\/\">Comics and Juvenile Delinquency in the 1950s <\/a>uses several different types of <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/\">H5P.com<\/a> content to provide interactive activities about how the comic book industry was linked to rising juvenile crime rates in the 1950s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.berry.edu\/csnider\/resources\/the-industrial-revolution-the-family-economy\/\">The Industrial Revolution and the Family Economy<\/a> uses <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/\">H5P.com<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/h5p.org\/presentation\">course presentation content type <\/a>to examine the impact of the Industrial Revolution on American families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Video Lecturing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One way to spice up an online lecture is to add a short animation to explain a concept.\u00a0 One of the easy animation tools I&#8217;ve discovered is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysimpleshow.com\/\">Mysimpleshow.com<\/a>.\u00a0 It allows you to build a short clipart type of animation with a computer voice over or one that you do yourself.\u00a0 These animations can then be used to spice up an online lecture.\u00a0 Here are a couple that I&#8217;ve created: <a href=\"https:\/\/videos.mysimpleshow.com\/e3tuw5TNKs\">Origins of the Civil Rights Movement<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/videos.mysimpleshow.com\/HdAYCi0YoA\">The American System<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Graphic Syllabus Piktochart &#8211;
